Today, we got a brand new database error. What fun! This one I haven't seen before and probably is a result of the MySQL server going down completely, but whatever the cause, it's just reinforced my decision to move elsewhere. After researching the two companies, I am most likely going to go with LiquidWeb as our new host as I've heard good things about their managed dedicated servers. Unfortunately, the prices are a bit higher than I would like (though cheaper than Invision's new server idea), so I have to wait for the funds to be transferred from Paypal (thank you subscribers for your support) and then I can order the server. Hopefully I can do that tomorrow and get it set up then as well - if not, then I'm not sure when I can get to it as next week is quite busy.

Just a little note to show my personal appreciation for your dedication. Thank you.

I think I am managing my SD-1 addiction pretty well. The shakes aren't so bad anymore and I only check the site 3 times a day now.

Believe me when I tell you that you are in my prayers. I have no doubt you will fix this problem soon.

So is there any chance you'll be opening the boards to non-subscribers before you change hosts? I miss sd=1! Appreciate all your work Blake.

Thaaaaankyou Blake! You rock. You kick ass. We love you... and your ass. ;-) Which has always been so in gear but now you're like... I dunno... WebsiteMan with built-in... hard drive... ;-)

Yeah, so, thanks, is what I meant. :-) And you rock.

LiquidWeb...COOL!!! That's the company that the Web-design company I work for uses...we have a dedicated server that we host client sites on, and there have been no problems whatsoever! Their user interface is just stellar...you'll be really happy with them...because you can call them, and you'll get a live person in just a couple minutes!

Yeah - pretty much everything I've heard about them is good. They're a bit pricier than some other options, but peace of mind is worth a few extra bucks a month.

And we probably won't be opening up the forums to the public again before the move, but we'll see. I might force everyone to log in so we don't have any lurkers, but not quite sure about the plans yet.

I have a question, will all our stories and threads be able to move down there, without us having to repost??

Anyhow, i just want to say thank you Blake for keeping up with this, i love sd-1 and i couldn't bare the idea of loseing it, the week has been dull without sd-1. Can't wait for everything to go back to the way it was

We're currently working off a back-up that we had from the 25th of Ocbtober (so about 6 days worth of posts were lost). Everything will be moved over that was there on the 25th of October and everything that was posted since we reopened to subscribers will transfer as well.

If you were a subscriber you could be on right now. The boards are open to subscribers, but it’s lonely in there.

Just look at all the work and time Blake is going though, for us, at no charge to us. But I think it is costing him something? I really don't know how this works. Even if it is not costing $ it is costing time, which can be even more valuable.

Do you realize that a $10 a year fee is 84 cents a month, and less than 03 cents a day?

Thanks for not giving up Blake. SD-1 is the best.

These comments were unsolicited by management, just in case anyone is wondering.

Just wanted to say thanks for all your hard work. I feel kinda guilty now because I wasn't a subscriber before, but I will be once everything is back up (and hopefully others will join me). I have enjoyed SD1 for free for a while and $10 is totally worth it if we can have a better server. And of course I want everything to be running smoothly before the new season starts.

Thanks, Blake, for all of your hard work trying to get SD-1 back up. I had been considering getting a subscription before the crash, and now I definitely won't mind signing up for a subscription if it will help pay for the new server (every little bit helps, right?).

Hi

I have no idea what this blog thing is or how it works but I wanted to say to Blake that I love sd 1 and have been wanting to subscribe for a while and just never got around to it ( I hoped my hubby would do it for my birthday but alas..)

I miss it so much and believe me there is nothing like sd 1 out there- for ease of use and communication between fans

so to all of you whose stories I was reading, and to those who read mine - I look forward to the return and if any of you want to email me privately I am at

Um, so since it wasn't able to get back online yesterday, does that mean we have no idea when the board is going to reopen to nonsubscribers, since you'll be busy, Blake?

I'm wondering how much longer . . . this is taking a while, what if people just start leaving the board?>

IF people just start leaving, then that's a shame, but it's their own choice. Basically, all I'm waiting for is a transfer from Paypal into my bank account. Once that transfer goes through, I can purchase the new server and begin the installation of the board. Once the board is installed, I will close sd-1.net and move the database over and open the boards up again on the new server. So, hopefully, less than a week. Problem is, I'm busy from 7am - 10pm Monday THROUGH Thursday and I'm busy from 7am - 7pm on Friday. Working full time and taking classes sucks, but I hope to get some work in whenever I can. If all else fails, I should have all next weekend to work on it.

If people up and leave because sd-1 experienced a glitch that you have been actively trying to repair since it first went down, we don't need them over there anyway.

The die hards will remain with you and sd-1 Blake.

Well, I'm not leaving. This is the only forum that matters to me and keeps me coming back to check on posts. Hopefully things will get better by next week. As for the move, it only seems logic: this situation is getting ridiculous.
Thanks for keeping us in the loop Blake, we appreciate it.

Hey Blake!

Here I am again to thank you for everything… :) for all the effort you’re doing to put SD-1 back on-line! I miss the boards so much… the only advantage of this, is that I'm having time to do more school things :P

Hmm… and about people leaving SD-1… honestly, I don’t believe that will happen! SD-1 is not only a place where we talk about ALIAS and where we put our fics, etc, etc. It’s also a place where we’ve made friends :) And some of them, really good friends :)

If people leave us (people that love SD-1), than I think we were wrong about them :( But, as kimmers said: “If people want to leave to me thats there loss…”!

Thanks for everything, and I hope to see all of you soon ;)

I have a question. Will it still be www.SD-1.net after we leave Invision to go to LiquidWeb? Thanks for the continual updates Blake!
